Enabling Database Security. The security settings of the Emission Master databases as well as the database administrator assignments may be made from the Security Window which is found under the General Options menu.  Database security should be enabled if it is important to prevent existing records in any of the Emission Master databases from being edited.  Any number of persons can be added to the list of Administrators and it's always a good idea for there to be at least two persons listed as Administrators (assuming that database security has been enabled).  A person is designated as an Administrator when their log in identification signature appears in the Administrator list.

Public/Private Description When a database record is initially created then it is designated as being owned by the person that created the record.  The owner of a record may then elect to make his or her record public so that others can make changes.  Any user may take ownership of a record that has been marked public by simply making it private.  Once the record has been made private then only the new owner of the record or a database administrator can change the status of the record back to be public again.  A database administrator can override the public/private setting of any database record.  If a database administrator owns a database record then only that person or another database administrator can make the record public.

Changing status of a record between Private and Public. To change the status of a database record, the user should perform a right mouse click over the 'Last User Update' field to toggle the record from private to public or from public to private.  Changing the security status of a record can only be done by the owner of the record or a user with administrator status.
